This song tune appears to be taken from a keen or lament. It is more melodically complex than' Calleno Casturame', a setting of which is also given in this source. The tremolo indicated throughout the tune is perhaps indicative of the vocal shake discussed by Bunting and others in relation to the funeral 'cries' or 'golls' which were collected in later centuries, although this may also be a specific performance direction for the lute. |
