The oldest known Irish song tune. The title is a transliteration with several possible origins, of which 'Cailín ó Chois tSiúre mé' ('I am a girl from the Suir-side') is the most commonly cited. The song title is quoted in Shakespeare's Henry V (c.1599). The tune is reminiscent of a renaissance style, with simple step-wise movement and a clear resolution to the tonic. |
