The items from the Royal Irish Academy's MS12 Q13 manuscript are transcriptions of a number of worksongs from the collector and writer Proinsias Ó Catháin (Dublin). One of George Petrie's many informants was cited, in the Standford edition of his work, as Francis Keane, probably the same person. These transcriptions formed part of an essay for a competition organised by the RIA between 1873-1876 on the state of the Irish language in Ulster. Ó Catháin's essay was selected as the winning entry. |
