This is amongst the longest and most full settings of a keen. The transcription, from a manuscript in the Royal Irish Academy dated to 1791, begins with a musical statement, presumably that of the lead keener. Semi-choruses (more than one keener) and full choruses (the whole gathering) are also indicated. The repetition of musically similar themes throughout the rest of the setting demonstrates the structure of the keen, while also showing the subtle changes between each repetition of the theme. |
