Samuel Lover wrote the words of this song in response to the first air in Bunting's 1840 collection. Bunting gives the English title 'Sit down under my protection' in the publication but uses the Irish-language title 'ShÃos air mo Dhiodionn' (or a variation thereof) in his notebooks. We have included the printed setting here as this was the version to which Lover responded, rather than the manuscript versions. |
